European Space Solutions 2014

Between 11th and 13th of June a conference focusing on satellite data applications is held in Prague, Czech Republic. Black Pearls representative is present at this event. The European Union is responsible for two “flagship” satellite programs: Copernicus (Earth Observation) and Galileo (navigation). Both of them are right now close to the initial operational services and full access to data should be available in few years. This means more and more focus on data exploitation through various applications, including commercial ones.

Between 11th and 13th of June a conference focusing on satellite data applications is held in Prague, Czech Republic. Most of talks are related to Copernicus and Galileo. The selection of Prague to host this event is quite obvious: in this city the European Satellite Navigation Agency (GSA) is located.

The event was opened on 11th of July by a political-level panel, composed of several Czech ministers, the European Commission deputy director for the enterprise & industry as well as the director of GSA. During this panel it was announced that “space” should be considered as a common utility to Europeans, just like electricity or telecommunication. The usage of “space” for Europe is to be done mainly through Copernicus and Galileo systems, which are a common investment of all European Union countries. This approach is well visible in space related projects realized under the Horizon 2020 R&D programme, where a higher funding until 2020 is planned.

On 12th and 13th the conference will focus on more technical sessions, e.g. on rail, aviation or safety. During these two days, experts from these application fields will present their comments and opinion as well as will search for potential future cooperation partners. This is a very good opportunity to begin new partnerships, which potentially could lead to new projects and – eventually – new commercial products. This is why Black Pearls representative came to Prague and attends to this conference.
