Meeting at GUT on hybrid location systems

Last Friday, May 23, a representative of Black Pearls attended a meeting dedicated to research project, named: “Hybrid Indoor Positioning System”. The project was developed under the LIDER program, funded by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR), at the Department of Microwave and Antenna Engineering, Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, Gdansk University of Technology (GUT).

Real Time Locating Systems (RTLS) belong to one of the fastest growing branch of ICT industry. They are used to automatically identify and track the location of objects or people in real time, usually within a building or other contained area. Systems used inside the buildings are called Indoor Positioning Systems (IPS) and they operate with the use of a dedicated infrastructure.

Under the project a prototype of the modular, hybrid system, dedicated for the localization inside the buildings, has been developed. Main feature of the system is use of several complementary techniques for spatial localization. The system may be implemented at the Technical University of Gdansk within this year.
